Foods That Help You Sleep Better

Have you been pressurized because of the hectic schedule and facing insomnia? Don’t worry now, because there is a solution to give you sound sleep so that you wake up fresh and healthy every morning. A recent study from the University of Pennsylvania has found that fish may be the key to a good sleep at night. The research paper has been published in Scientific Reports.

The research has been conducted with Chinese school children who were regular fish consumers. During research 541 school children were noticed for their eating habits, to check the frequency of fish eating. Their parents were instructed to keep an eye on the kids’ sleeping patterns. It has been observed that omega-3 fatty acid that is contained in fish caused improved sleep among children and they also scored higher on IQ tests.

Adrian Raine, one among the authors of the research paper and a professor of psychiatry, psychology, and criminology explained that there is a relationship between fish consumption and higher cognitive functioning. He said that they have documented everything in that better explains the connection between better sleep and fish eating in the paper. The brain is much more plastic early in child development and that’s why fish consumption earlier in life may be particularly beneficial for child’s sleep and cognitive functioning.  He cleared the point by giving a statement, “From A to B to C: From fish consumption to better sleep to higher cognitive functioning.”

Raine also added that it would be reasonable to imagine that these findings can be applicable to adults too because studies have shown that omega-3 fatty acids can have positive effects on the psychological functioning in adults also.

So it can be said that not only warm milk, but fish consumption also has a special effect on the human brain.
